At the first Dublin Juvenile Cross Country league match, held at picturesque Ardgillan Park near Skerries on Sunday, Donore Harriers had two clear individual winners.
Sean Kinsella gained the lead in the early stages of his u/10 Boys 600m and maintained his good pace to win by 5 metres. Lucy McCann, making her club debut, also led from gun to tape – extending her lead on the final uphill gradient – to win the Girls u/15s race over a distance of 1,500m.
Other notable performances came from Claire O’Connor, who placed 5th in a very competitive u/16s race ran over 2,000 metres. Other top 10 finishers were: – Eliza Ni Thighearnaigh 6th in the girls u/15s (1,500m) and Jack Raftery 8th in the boys u/13s (1,000m).
With the backdrop of Ardgillan Castle on one side and the Irish Sea on another, the undulating course proved more difficult for others – especially with driving winds and rain. The remaining club results are as follows: – Sophie O’Farrell 24th in the Girls u/10s (600m); Ellie Raftery 30thin the Girls u/12s (1,000m); Alan Reid 20th in the Boys u/12s (1,000 metres); Tanisha Bissett 14th and Roisin Brady 23rd in the Girls u/13s (1,000m); Ronan McCooey 24th in the Boys u/13s (1,000m); Ruairi Fitzgibbon 15th in the Boys u/14s (1,200m); Tadgh Fitzgibbon 12th and Daniel Brady 15th in the Boys u/15s (1,500).
The next round of the League will take place at Corkagh Park in Clondalkin on the Sunday 29thSeptember 2013 so we will be expecting more of our juveniles to race that day. Well done to everyone who raced and to their parents who brought them there.
