Juveniles Shine in St. Anne’s

Three individual wins saw a successful morning of athletics for Donore Harriers in the third match of the Dublin Juvenile Cross Country league at St. Anne’s Park in Raheny on Sunday.

Sean Kinsella opened the account in the Boys u/10s race over 800m. In a sprint finish Sean edged a Tallaght athlete to be first into the finish funnel, but an objection resulted in a tied-first-place result. The confusion was caused by the Tallaght athlete overtaking Sean inside the finishing funnel.

There was no such confusion in the Girls u/15s race over 2.5km. Lucy McCann (in photograph) was 10 metres clear at the end of the 1km loop and then went on to extend her lead to almost 50 metres at the finish line.

Niamh O’Neill ran brilliantly in her first race of the season to win the u/17s category run over 3km. The other top ten finishers included: – Claire O’Connor 4th in Girls u/16s (3km); Eliza NiThighearnaigh 6th in Girls u/15s (2.5km); and Jack Raftery 9th in Boys u/13s (1.7km).

The rest of the Donore Harriers juvenile team who took part were: – Sophie Farrell 19th and Sadbh Parketr 29th in the Girls u/10s over 800m; Michael Barry 18th in the Boys u/10s (800m); Ellie Raftery 40th in the Girls u/12s over 1.5km; Roisin Brady 27th in the Girls u/13s after 1.7km; Ronan McCooey 22nd in the Boys u/13s (1.7km); Ruairi Fitzgibbon 18th in the Boys u/14s over 2km and Daniel Brady 23rd in the Boys u/15s race after 2.5km.

The final match in the league series will take place at the Phoenix Park on the 20th October 2013.
