Ray Hynes, who has been out of competition for almost a year due to injury, showed an encouraging return to form in the recent Grant Thornton 5km road race at the Dublin Docklands. The race was won by Conor Dooney (14.49) of Raheny Shamrocks AC, who had 7 seconds to spare over John Coghlan of Metro St. Bridget. Hynes (15.17) placed an excellent 6th. His return to form boosts the Donore Harriers team prospects ahead of a new cross-country season.
The evergreen John Dunne (15.21) took 13 seconds of his previous best time for the distance when placing 9th.
There were a number of other noteworthy performances from Donore athletes at other venues: – Kevin English (35.36) won the recent Great Pink Race in the Phoenix Park, where newcomer Rossa Hurley (36.13) showed fine potential when placing 3rd. Aine Mahony (43.52) made her club debut in the Pink Run and was the 4th woman home when crossing the line in 30th overall position.

Niall Lynch (1.15.27) travelled to Co. Kerry to compete in the Dingle Half-Marathon. He finished in a very fine 2nd positon. His ‘mountain racing’ experience allowed him to compete well over a tough undulating course.
Gavin Byrne (3.22.19) and Colin Morrissey (4.39.43) took on a tri-athlon challenge with a difference. Competing in the Achill Roar in County Mayo on Sunday they had to start with a run of 600m, followed by a 1200m swim or 2500m kayak. Then followed a 600m run to transition before a 15km trail run along a beach and up a mountain path to a summit at 644m. The final part of the race was a cycle of 45km with a final 100m dash to the finish. Gavin placed 9th overall with Colin in 74th position.
