HIGHLIGHT: Elliot Slade logs impressive performances Stateside.
REPORT: Elliot Slade impressed with fine performances in the NCAA Division 2 qualifying event in the 6th Annual Indoor Gorilla Classic at the Pittsburg 300m indoor track on Friday and Saturday (12 & 13 February 2021).
Slade, representing the Academy of Art University, ran the opening leg in the Distance Medley Relay on Friday. He covered his 1,200m leg in 2.58 to help his team (9.45.51) to victory ahead of Pittsburg State University (9.49.73). The Wales international athlete won the 800m on the following day in a very fine 1.50.89, to finish ahead of Matt Wilson (1.51.55) of Pittsburg State University and Dylan Burrows (1.51.73) of Oklahoma Christian University. It was a race dominated by Slade, who took an initial lead and held good form all the way to the finish line.
The Donore Harriers man rounded off a busy weekend by running the anchor leg in the 4 x 400m in 48.2, but his team could only manage 5th place behind winners Oklahoma Baptist University.
Elliot now goes forward to compete in the NCAA Division 2 championships next month.
