Christmas and New Year roundup

The Christmas and New year period is one of the busiest in the running calendar and Donore Harriers could be found competing all over Ireland.

Big numbers turned out for the Tom Brennan New years day race in the Phoenix Park. Fred Kiernan was first home for the club in 17.14 and full results were as follows

Around the country there were opportunities for many members to run on home soil over the past week. In Cork Ian O’Leary ran 27.39 in the Bandon 5 mile and was 1st m40 in the Belgooly 4 mile a few days earlier in 22.30. Barbara Murray did an excellent 41.25 and was 2nd in the new years day Monaghan 10k. A few days before her wedding Sinead Jennings was 2nd woman in the Finn valley 5k in 17.56 in Donegal. Congratulations to her and her husband Sam.

 

It was a family affair at the Farranfore 4 mile where Ide and Sorcha Nic dhomhnaill raced with several family members, Sorcha running 25.18 and Ide 25.42. Also participating were Patrick Moriarty 24.32 and Des Tremble 25.58. Donal Mulligan was 2nd m40 in 18.02 at the Shane Brennan 5k in Longford. At the Newmarket 5k, John Downes was 1st M45 and 11th overall in 16.09. Michelle Ruddy did the rain-soaked Fields of Athenry 10k in 47 and Rhona Duane ran the Streets of Wicklow 5k. Well done all
