Donore Harriers Athletics Report – w/e 29th September 2019

HIGHLIGHTS: Anne Curley completes her 22nd marathon at Berlin, Grace Kennedy-Clarke first woman home in the Fastlane Half-Marathon, Barbara Murray 2nd placed woman in the Balbriggan 4 mile, Tony Kynes 3rd M60 at Rathfarnman 5km, and Katie Delaney achieves the 50 Parkrun milestone.

 

 

Anne Curley described her excellent 3.09.40 run at the BERLIN MARATHON (29.09.2019) as a “sweet victory” after a recurring foot injury hampered her preparation. Curley afterwards paid tribute to her coach Willie Smith, whose training sessions allowed her to “get very fit in a short time”. The Donore athlete, who passed the halfway mark in 1 hour and 36 minutes, was the 271st woman athlete to compete the 26.2-mile course, placing 34th in the W45 age category. Sean Fox (2.44.44) was the 727th male finisher and placed 118th in the M40 grade and Shane McAuley (2.57.27) was 1839th and 252nd in the M45 category. There were over 40k finishers.

 

In the RATHFARNHAM 5km ROAD RACE on Sunday morning (29.09.2019) a contingent of 10 Donore Harriers athletes were led home by Luke Boland (16.19), who placed 39th of more than 800 athletes and was the 26th senior man. Next Donore athlete was Gavin Keogh (16.44) in 52nd and 34th senior. Donal Iremonger (17.38) came 97th position and 8th in the M45 age group, with Patrick Byrne (54th senior) was just 2 seconds and 2 places further back. Aoife Ni Thuathail (19.51), showed good form ahead of next weekend’s Dublin Novice cross-country championship, when placing 192nd overall and 23rd senior woman. The remaining club athletes were – Tony Kynes (19.56) in 196th place and 3rd M60, Sinead Graham (20.06) 207th and 28th senior woman, Paul Cummins (21.40) 207th and 116th senior man, Tommy Halton (26.17) 403rd and 17th M60, and Ann Woodlock (31.21) 708th and 10th W60. The latter having recently won gold and silver medals in the W80 category at the European Masters track & field championships in Italy.

 

Grace Kennedy-Clarke (1.27 17) was the outright winner of the women’s category in the FASTLANE HALF-MARATHON at Clondalkin (29.09.2019) on Sunday. The Donore athlete placed 16th overall out of 338 finishers. The inaugural race was held over a narrow course that included canal towpaths, country roads and cycle lanes in the Clondalkin and City West area. Elsewhere,

Barbara Murray (26.27) came 8th overall and 2nd woman at the BALBRIGGAN & DISTRICT AC 4 MILE ROAD RACE (29.09.2019).

Jack Raftery ran the medley relay 4th leg in the colours of SPN Vernon Athletisme in the qualifying round of the COUPE DE FRANCE at Vernon on Saturday (28.09.2019). With the first 3 athletes building a lead over the 100m, 200m and 300m legs Raftery ran a “comfortable” 400m leg in 51 seconds to secure the win.

 

PARKRUN SERIES (28.09.2019) Thirteen years-old Katie Delaney (23.38) chalked-up her 50th parkrun at Waterstown Park in Palmerstown on Saturday morning. Katie was 7th home and 1st woman finisher. The young Donore athlete did her first Parkrun in August 2016 when she was well outside the 40 minutes mark. She’s been a regular park-runner since January 2018 and has improved her time to 22.51. Other Juvenile athletes included – Dylan McKenna (22.17) in 4th place, Oliver Hopkins (23.39) in 8th and Eleanor Hopkins (24.53) in 13th and 2nd woman.

Senior club member Josh O’Sullivan-Hourihan was first finisher in 16.34. Faith Hopkins W45 (34.31) was 39th overall. There were 80 finishers.

Nicola Dowdall (23.52) was first woman finisher at Corkagh Park when placing 8th overall. Mary Murphy (27.23) came 47th overall at the same venue. M75 athlete Terry Mee (28.53) came 76th at Griffeen Park, whilst Tommy Halton M60, a day before competing in the Rathfarnham 5km road race, came 51st at Bushy Park in 27.38.
