The 40th version of the ARMED FORCES AN COSANTOIR 10km race at the Phoenix Park on Wednesday (09.10.2019) saw Josh O’Sullivan-Hourihan (31.47) finish in 3rd place behind winner Kenneth Rodgers (31.17).

On the same day at the BROTHERS BY YOUR SIDE SCHOOLS CROSS COUNTRY RACES at Santry Demesne Oliver Hopkins, representing St. Declan’s School, convincingly won the Junior Boys category. Honor Lynch and Eleanor Hopkins came 8th and 19th respectively in the Minor Girls race.

Chris Muldoon continued his busy racing schedule with 3rd place in the 2nd annual ROSEMOUNT HALF-MARATHON in Co. Meath on Saturday (12.10.2019). Muldoon completed the picturesque rural course in 1.19.45. The race was won by Donal Mulligan (1.13.27) of Longford AC.

Des Gill competed in the MELBOURNE MARATHON on Sunday (13.10.2019). Here is his account of the race as posted on Facebook : What a fantastic experience. Perfect running conditions, 14-18 degrees and the odd gentle Zephyr to keep us cool. Starting a few rows from the front at 7:00am by the Rod Laver Arena. We ran at an easy pace towards the skyscrapers. In perfect running conditions the Km’s peeled off and I found myself comfortably running with the 3:20 pacer though the city suburbs for the first 12 k to the coast road at St Kilda. What a long road! Passed through the half marathon marker at 1:39 and all was good. Loving my first Marathon . At 28k still on the St Kilda coast road it was like someone flicked a switch and my legs suddenly ceased to function. It was kinda like seeing someone leaving a late-night bar back in the day after a few too many beers meandering from left to right with a pair of rubber legs. I decided the best thing to do was to walk for a while and true enough after a Km I managed to slowly pick up the pace. It was now a question of just getting to the finish line. And what a challenge the following 14 k were. Full on . Great lift when I saw my daughter Rebecca cheering me on at 35 and 40k. About 39 k a voice running beside me exclaimed “Come on Donore” he introduced himself as Nigel Travers a past member who used to throw discus for the club. Great boost. The finish into the stadium with a lap to the line is something I’ll never forget. I crossed it in 3:48.35. A first Marathon experience indelibly imprinted forever in my mind and whatever is left of my legs.  Loved every moment of it.
