The Raheny Mid-Summer 5K which also incorporated the Dublin Novice road championship saw a great turnout from Donore athletes this weekend with both the men and women fielding strong teams. Conditions were perfect for the two lapped course through St. Annes Park and it was a great showcase for some of our newer members and a chance to test our new novice teams and plenty of PBs achieved on this pleasant course.
First home from Donore was the versatile Graham Hopkins in 13th place 16:16 with Niall Lynch making his Donore debut 4 seconds behind in 16:20, Fergal Swaine 16:42, Luke Boland 17:44, Bob Blake 17:47, Gerry McDonnell 17:53, Tony Barry 17:58, Stephen Dawson 18:57, Ryan Van Haeften 19:36 and Gerard Morris in 19:53.
First home for the ladies was Alma Hanevy in 20:07 who had a great run and a nice PB just pipping Medbh Peavoy with 20:09, Rhona Duane and Grainne Nolan finished side by side in 20:33, Marianne Denlevy 20:37, Sinead Graham 20:55, Aisling Swaine ran well to take the junior ladies prize in 21:18, Eva Campion 21:42, Janette Strickland 22:25 and Linda Curtain 23:22
Results for the novice race are pending but we are hopeful for medals for both the mens and womens teams.
Meanwhile Anne Curley finished second woman in 38.42 on the tough, undulating course at the Heart of Laois 10k in Abbeyleix. It is great to see Ken Nugent back competing after a long injury layoff, he was 3rd in the Tulfarris Tough 10 mile (which is true to its title) in 58.49.
In the Dublin Graded Meet in Santry on Wednesday the 12th some brave souls braved the wet conditions. John Travers took 1st place in the 3,000m 8.23.57 and Daragh Fitzgibbon ran 8.58.06 in the same race. In the mens 100m Eamonn Fahey ran 11.17, Sean O’Broin 12.61, Eric Keogh dropped down to the 800m and ran a very good 1.55.18 and Emmett O’Briain 2.11.20 and we had Eoin Molloy in the hammer. The ladies were represented by Lynda Nsankam who ran in the 100m 12.87.
On the same night, the popular Trinity track races took place on the grass track of college park. Full results weren’t available but It’s great to see Susan Walsh back in action in the mile, good runs too from Frank McNally, Des Gill, Fred Kiernan, Jono Daly, Ann Woodlock and Feargal Swaine.
